Ninja has launched an innovative outdoor grill, the Ninja Flex Flame, which combines propane grilling with wood fire smoking technology.

After months of beta testing and consultation, champion pitmaster Christie Vanover is excited to share how this grill stands out from traditional gas grills.

What Makes the Ninja Flex Flame Unique?

What makes a Ninja FlexFlame different than other gas grills is the way that it functions. While the heat is propane gas, it integrates wood pellets, turning it into a smoker.

With most gas grills, there is usually a left, center and right burner controlled by individual dials. You adjust those burners manually from low, medium or high.

With the Ninja FlexFlame, you have a front middle and back burner, and they’re controlled by a function dial and a temperature dial.

Four Cooking Functions

This grill features four primary settings, each designed for a variety of cooking techniques. With each function, different burners are activated and the temperature zones vary.

  • Grill/Pizza (450-600F) – All three burners are on, creating a full direct heat zone. Ideal for high-heat grilling of burgers and steaks or baking pizza using the optional pizza stone.
  • Two-Zone (350-500F) – Allows for both direct and indirect cooking, with the front and middle burners on and the back burner off.
  • Roast/Bake (300-450F) – The front and back burners are on and the middle burner is off. Perfect for baking cookies, pies and even cupcakes without burning the bottom.
  • Low & Slow (200-300F) – Only the middle burner is on. Turns the grill into a smoker, using wood pellets for deep smoky flavors.

How to Smoke on a Gas Grill

On the right side of the FlexFlame, there is a hopper for wood pellets. Once you add two cups of pellets, you push the Woodfire Flavor button. This ignites the pellets and adds smoke to the grill. This feature can be used with any of the cooking functions.

A built-in cyclonic fan circulates heat and smoke evenly, eliminating hot spots and ensuring that even low-temperature cooking, like smoking brisket, delivers a perfect bark and color.

The Ninja Flex Flame also allows cold smoking, making it easy to infuse cheese, salts and herbs with smoky flavor without turning on the burners.

Optional Upgrades

Pizza Oven

With the Ninja pizza stone upgrade, you can turn the FlexFlame into a pizza oven. You’ll place the stone on the grill, set the function to grill/pizza and choose the temperature based on the type of pizza you’re cooking.

Ninja also makes a pizza peel, which makes putting your pizza on and off of the grill super easy.

Griddle

There is a half griddle and a full griddle upgrade that allow you to turn the FlexFlame into a griddle. With either of them, you’re going to remove the grill grates and add the griddle to the grill right over the burners.

The half griddle allows you to grill and griddle at the same time. The full griddle covers the full surface of the grill, which is ideal for griddling larger meals.
